In the given case the separation between the two mirrors is increased by moving mirror upwards. Here we need to explain whether the number of reflections made by the beam of light will be affected when the mirror is moved upwards.

When the mirror is moved upwards the beam travels larger distance to the right between every successive reflections. Therefore, the number of reflections decreases when the mirror is moved upwards.
