Trisomy is a genetic condition in which a person has three copies of a specific chromosome in the cells of their body instead of the regular two. This is caused by a process known as nondisjunction, in which the chromosomes fail to separate during the meiotic process which leads to extra copies. Examples of trisomies are Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) and Trisomy 18 (Edward Syndrome).
