QUESTION: Problem 7P

Calculate the molar mass of each of the following:

(a) Sr(OH)2 (b)N2O3 (c)NaClO3 (d)Cr2O3

ANSWER:

Solution 7P

Here we have to calculate the molar mass of each of the following:

Molar mass:- Molar mass or molecular mass is defined as the sum of the atomic masses of individual atoms.

Step 1

(a) Sr(OH)2

The atomic mass of Sr = 87.62 g/mol

Atomic mass of O = 16 g/mol, 2 moles of O is present in Sr (OH)2, hence 2 16 = 32 g/mol

Atomic mass of H = 1.008 g/mol, for 2 H-atoms, 2  1.008 = 2.016 g/mol

Thus the molar mass of Sr (OH)2 is = 87.62 g/mol + 32 g/mol + 2.016 g/mol = 121.64 g/mol

The molar mass of Sr(OH)2 is found to be 121.64 g/mol.
