a) To determine the molecular dipole moment, first find all of the individual atomic dipole moments, and then see how they will add together or cancel out each other. In this compound, only the C-Cl bonds are polar covalent and will have a dipole pointing towards the more electronegative Cl atoms. These two individual dipole moments add together to give a molecular dipole moment as seen below.
