Using Figure 14.23 as your basis, draw the energy profile for the bromidecatalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. (a) Label the curve with the activation energies for reactions [14.30] and [14.31]. (b) Notice from Figure 14.22 that when is first added, Br2 accumulates to some extent during the reaction and the solution turns brown. What does this tell us about the relative rates of the reactions represented by Equations 14.30 and 14.31?
