QUESTION:

Explain why the method of pairwise comparisons satisfies the Condorcet criterion.

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 2

The Condorcet criterion is a fairness criterion that states that if a Condorcet candidate exists, that candidate should be the election winner. A Condorcet candidate is one who beats each of the other candidates in a pairwise comparison.

The method of pairwise comparisons is a voting system based on candidate head-to-head comparisons that awards one point to the winner, none to the loser, and  point to each of the two candidates in the event of a tie.
