Chapter 13, Problem 13.42

(choose chapter or problem)

A compound A reacts with H2 over Pd/C to give methyl- cyclohexane. A colleague, Al Keen, has deduced that the compound must be either 1-methylcyclohexene or 3-methylcyclohexene. You have been called in as a consultant to help Keen decide between these two structures. What evidence would you look for in the proton NMR spectrum to decide between these two possibilities?
