Chapter P6 Problem 12MCP

Question

Choose the BEST answer to each of the following:

The distance of your image behind a plane mirror is equal to

(a) half your height.

(b) half your distance from the mirror.

(c) your distance in front of the mirror.

(d) more than your distance in front of the mirror.

Solution

Step 1 of 2

The law of reflection states that the angle of light ray incident to a surface is equal to the angle of ray reflected from the surface. Both angles are measured from the normal on the incident surface to the light ray. In our case, we have an object at a distance  from the mirror, while the mirror image is at the same distance  "behind" the mirror.
