Chapter 22 Problem 38E

Question

Problem 38E

If you rub an inflated balloon against your hair and place it against a door, by what mechanism does it stick? Explain.

Solution

Solution 38E

Step 1:

If we rub an inflated balloon against our hair, electron transfer will take place from the hair to the balloon. As a part of the electron transfer, excess negative charge would be acquired by the balloon which will make the balloon as a negatively charged body. Similarly, there will be a deficiency in the electrons in the hair and hence, it will be positively charged.
