A student is getting ready to take an importantoral examination and is concerned about the possibilityof having an on day or an off day. Hefigures that if he has an on day, then each of hisexaminers will pass him, independently of eachother, with probability .8, whereas if he has an offday, this probability will be reduced to .4. Supposethat the student will pass the examination if amajority of the examiners pass him. If the studentfeels that he is twice as likely to have an off day ashe is to have an on day, should he request an examinationwith 3 examiners or with 5 examiners?
