The fi gure shows three displacement vectors A B , B B ,

Chapter , Problem 71

(choose chapter or problem)

The fi gure shows three displacement vectors A B , B B , and C B . These vectors are arranged in tail-to-head fashion, and they add together to give a resultant displacement R B , which lies along the x axis. Note that the vector B B is parallel to the x axis. Concepts: (i) How is the magnitude of A B related to its scalar components Ax and Ay? (ii) Do any of the vectors in the fi gure have a zero value for either their x or y components? (If so, which ones?) (iii) What does the fact that A B , B B , and C B add together to give R B tell you about the components of these vectors? Calculations: What is the magnitude of the vector A B and its directional angle u?
