QUESTION:

Problem 53E

For a process that is in control and follows a normal distribution, interpret each of the following Cp values:

a. 1.00 b. 1.33 c. .50 d. 2.00

ANSWER:

Step 1 of 5

We are given the  values, for a process that is control and follows normal distribution;

we need to give interpretation for each of those values.

As we know that interpretation rules of capability Index, as shown below:

If the process falls within the specification limits:

     1)  If  = 1 (Specification spread = process spread), process is capable.

     2)  If  >1(Specification spread > process spread), process is capable.

     3)  If  < l(Specification spread < process spread), process is not capable.

If the process follows a normal distribution:

     1)  If = l.0, means about 2.7 units per 1,000 will be unacceptable.

     2)  If = 1.33, means about 63 units per million will be unacceptable.

     3)  If  =1.67, means about 0.6 units per million will be unacceptable.

     4)  If  =2.00, mew about 2 units per million will be unacceptable.
