The strength of the bond can be determined by the length of the bond. The smaller the length of the bond, the greater the strength of the bond. Also, as the atomic size increases down the group, the bond length increases and their strength of the bond decreases.

In the above pair, CH3-Cl has greater strength than CH3-Br. This is because atom size of Cl is less than Br. Hence, a C-Cl bond is smaller bond than a C-Br bond. Therefore, CH3-Cl has greater bond strength than CH3-Br.
