Chapter 9 Problem 25RCQ

Question

What would be the magnitude of the gravitational field anywhere inside a hollow, spherical planet?

Solution

Step 1 of 2

If we were in the hollow planet's center, we would always experience the same force towards each part of the outside walls of the planet.

Since the more massive end is farther away if we are closer to one end, the gravitational force exerted by both ends is equal but acting in the opposite direction.
