Chapter 2 Problem 90TAD

Question

If you toss a coin straight upward while riding in a train, where does the coin land when the motion of the train is uniform along a straight-line track? When the train slows while the coin is in the air?

Solution

Step 1 of 2

When the train moves at the same pace and in the same direction as the train, the coin will move at the same speed and direction as the train. Because of the inertia of motion, this will happen. It will return to your hand once you toss it up.
