Chapter 15 Problem 28E
Question
Problem 28E
Desert sand is very hot in the day and very cool at night. What does this indicate about its specific heat capacity?
Solution
Solution
Step 1 of 2
The specific heat capacity of a substance is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of a substance by 1 degree celsius.
Which means, for the substance with less specific heat capacity; less amount of heat is required to raise the temperature(warm the substance). In other words, such substances heats up faster also cools down faster.
Hence the substance with low specific heat capacity, warms up faster and also cools down faster.
