Chapter 21 Problem 35

Question

When discharging a capacitor, as discussed in conjunction with Figure \(21.39\), how long does it take for the voltage on the capacitor to reach zero? Is this a problem?

Solution

Solution 35CQ

Step 1 of 2

The discharging of the capacitor is governed by,

V = V0e

Here ,V is the voltage at the terminals of the capacitor in the course of discharging , V0 is the voltage across the terminals of the capacitor when the capacitor is fully charged , t is time calculated from the start of the discharging process , R is the resistance in the circuit and C is the value for the capacitance of the capacitor.
