Chapter 23 Problem 7Q

Question

Problem 7Q

What is the focal length of a plane mirror? What is the magnification of a plane mirror?

Solution

Solution 7Q:

Plane mirror forms image in accordance to law of reflection. We have to determine the focal length of the plane mirror and its magnification.

Step 1 of 3

Concept:

Law of Reflection:Ray of lights always travels in a straight line and when it is incident on a mirror, then the angle of incidence is always equal to angle of reflection.Incident ray and reflected ray lie on the opposite side of the normal.

The image of the object produced by a plane mirror will be upright, same size as the object, and will be located far behind the mirror as the object is in front of the mirror.

The point where the incident parallel rays come to a focus after reflection is called the focal point of the mirror. The distance from the center of the mirror to the focal point is called focal length, denoted by .
