Chapter 23 Problem 13Q

Question

Your eye looks into an aquarium and views a fish inside. One ray of light that emerges from the tank is shown in Fig. 23-45, as well as the apparent position of the fish. In the drawing, indicate the approximate position of the actual fish. Briefly justify your answer.

Solution

Solution 13Q:

We have to find the real position of the fish with the help of apparent position with the help of ray diagram.

Step 1 of 3

Concept:

Refraction: The phenomenon of bending of light as it passes obliquely from one transparent medium to another denser medium is called refraction of light. When the light rays travel from denser to rarer medium, they bent away from the normal.

Laws of Refraction:

The incident ray, the normal at the point of incidence and the refracted ray all lie in the

same plane.

The ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the sine of angle of refraction is always  constant

for the two media.
