Chapter 21 Problem 41E
Question
Problem 41E
The human ear is sometimes called a Fourier analyzer. What does this mean, and why is it an appropriate description?
Solution
Solution 41E
Step 1 of 3
Spectrum analysis, also referred to as frequency domain analysis or spectral density estimation, is the technical process of decomposing a complex signal into simpler parts.
In Fourier analysis the complex periodic patterns can be represented by the sum of sine waves having different amplitudes and frequencies. That is Fourier analysis enables one to break down complex periodic waveforms into their basic components, which happen to be sine waves of various frequencies, amplitudes, and phases.
