Here, we are asked to give the name of the parent atom, its mass number, and its group and period numbers.

The mass number is the sum of the number of protons and number of neutrons.

The atomic number of an element can be determined by the number of protons. The number of protons also gives the number of electrons, as an atom contains the same number of protons and electrons.

 

Let’s first consider depiction (a):

Given: Number of protons = 35

Number of neutrons = 44

Number of electrons = 36

The atomic number of element = 35.

The mass number of the element is = 35 + 44 = 79

The element with atomic number 35 is bromine (Br). Oxygen belongs to group 7A and it is found in period 4.
