Chapter 20 Problem 8RCQ

Question

Do compressions and rarefactions travel in the same direction, or in opposite directions, in a wave?

Solution

Step 1 of 2

In contrast to rarefaction, the particles in compression are tightly packed together, in a rarefaction, these particles are wider apart. They both, however, travel in the same direction and at the same speed.
