Chapter 3 Problem 58P

Question

Problem 58P

A submerged horizontal flat plate is suspended in water by a string attached at the centroid of its upper surface. Now the plate is rotated 45° about an axis that passes through its centroid. Discuss the change on the hydrostatic force acting on the. top surface of this plate as a result of this rotation. Assume the plate remains submerged at all times.

Solution

Step 1 of 2

The hydrostatic force on the top surface of the plate will remain the same as the submerged area remains unaffected due to the rotation.
