(a) Calculate the acceleration of a skier heading down a 10.0º slope, assuming the coefficient of friction for waxed wood on wet snow. (b) Find the angle of the slope down which this skier could coast at a constant velocity. You can neglect air resistance in both parts, and you will find the result of Exercise 5.9 to be useful. Explicitly show how you follow the steps in the Problem-Solving Strategies.

Exercise 5.9:

Show that the acceleration of any object down an incline where friction behaves simply (that is, where fk = µkN ) is a = g( sin θ − µk cos θ). Note that the acceleration is independent of mass and reduces to the expression found in the previous problem when friction becomes negligibly small (µk = 0).

The acceleration of the skier has to be calculated, when the skier slides down the  slope by taking the coefficient of the friction for the waxed wood on the wet snow as . Also, we need to estimate the angle of slope down under which the skier will experience a constant velocity.

In order to calculate the acceleration with which the skier slides, first we need to draw the free body diagram. Using free body diagram, we can estimate the force. The acceleration can be calculated using force by applying Newton’s second law.
