Three objects, A, B, and C, have x and y components of velocity that vary with time as shown in Figure 5–21. What is the direction of the net force acting on (a) object A, (b) object B, and

(c) object C, as measured from the positive x axis? (All of the nonzero slopes have the same magnitude.)

Solution

Step 1 of 3

(a) In the case of object A, the speed along the x-direction is unchanged but has increasing velocity in the y-direction.

That is the x-component of acceleration is zero and the object has acceleration in the positive y-direction.

The direction of the net force acting on object A is at an angle  with positive x-axis, along the positive y-direction.
