Chapter 19 Problem 28

Question

Determine the magnitudes and directions of the currents in each resistor shown in Fig. 19–56. The batteries have emfs of \(\mathscr E_1=9.0~\mathrm V\) and \(\mathscr E_2=12.0~\mathrm V\) and the resistors have values of \(R_1=25~ \Omega,~R_2=68~ \Omega\), and \(R_3=35~ \Omega\).

\((a)\) Ignore internal resistance of the batteries.

\((b)\) Assume each battery has internal resistance \(r=1.0~ \Omega\).

Solution

Step 1 of 4)

The first step in solving 19 problem number 28 trying to solve the problem we have to refer to the textbook question: Determine the magnitudes and directions of the currents in each resistor shown in Fig. 19–56. The batteries have emfs of \(\mathscr E_1=9.0~\mathrm V\) and \(\mathscr E_2=12.0~\mathrm V\) and the resistors have values of \(R_1=25~ \Omega,~R_2=68~ \Omega\), and \(R_3=35~ \Omega\).\((a)\) Ignore internal resistance of the batteries. \((b)\) Assume each battery has internal resistance \(r=1.0~ \Omega\).
From the textbook chapter DC Circuits you will find a few key concepts needed to solve this.
