Textbook Solutions for Conceptual Physics

Chapter 3 Problem 85

Question

Cite an example of something that undergoes acceleration while moving at constant speed. Can you also give an example of something that accelerates while traveling at constant velocity? Explain.

Solution

Step 1 of 2

Velocity, which possesses both direction and magnitude, is defined as a vector quantity. Its magnitude is termed speed. When only the direction of velocity changes, keeping the speed constant, the object is still considered to be accelerating.
