Chapter 11 Problem 2RC

Question

Why are motorists advised to use more viscous oils for their engines in the summer and less viscous oils in the winter?

Solution

Step 1 of 2

The viscosity of a liquid is the ability to resist its flow. This is due to the greater attraction between the layers of the liquid. The liquid with higher viscosity tends to flow very slowly than any other liquid. And the liquid with lower viscosity will flow at a faster rate.
