Chapter 10 Problem 70P

Question

The two masses (\(m_1=5.0\ \mathrm {kg}\) and \(m_2=3.0\ \mathrm {kg}\)) in the Atwood’s machine shown in Figure 10–22 are released from rest, with \(m_1\) at a height of 0.75 m above the floor. When \(m_1\) hits the ground its speed is 1.8 m/s. Assuming that the pulley is a uniform disk with a radius of 12 cm, (a) outline a strategy that allows you to find the mass of the pulley. (b) Implement the strategy given in part (a) and determine the pulley’s mass.

Solution

Step 1 of 3
