Chapter 5 Problem 7E

Question

Problem 7E

Consider a baseball player batting a ball. (a) Identify the action–reaction pairs when the ball is being hit and (b) while the ball is in flight.

Solution

Solution 7E

Introduction

We have to find out the action and reaction in the given condition.

Solution

Step 1: (a)

When the ball is being hit by bat, the bat is applying force to the ball. Hence the action is the force that is applied to the ball

Now according to the newton’s third law, the ball will also apply force on the bat. So the force that is applied to the bat by the ball is the reaction.
