(a)

The chemical shift provides the absorptions as a fraction of the NMR operating frequency making it independent of the spectrometer used to record a spectrum. An NMR spectrum plots the intensity of a peak against the chemical shift which is measured in part per million (ppm).

Protons which are in different environments will give different NMR signals and equivalent protons will give the same NMR signal.
