Chapter 5 Problem 15P

Question

State the following gas laws in words and also in the form of an equation: Boyle’s law, Charles’s law, Avogadro’s law. In each case, indicate the conditions under which the law is applicable, and give the units for each quantity in the equation.

Solution

Step 1 of 3

Here we have to State the following gas laws in words and also in the form of an equation and have to give the units for each quantity in the equation.

Boyle’s law:-

Boyle’s law states that pressure is inversely proportional to the volume at constant temperature (T) and moles (n) of gases.

The equation can be written as,

P   (T and n constant)

                                       Or, P = k

                                       Or. PV= k

Boyle’s law is applicable at a condition of constant temperature (T) and moles (n) of gases.

Unit of pressure is atm and volume is L.
