Chapter 4 Problem 6P

Question

Sodium sulfate \(\left(\mathrm{Na}_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4}\right)\) is a strong electrolyte. What species are present in \(\mathrm{Na}_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4}(a q)\) ?

Solution

Step 1 of 2

Here, we are going identify the species which are present in the aqueous solution of Sodium sulfate \(\left(\mathrm{Na}_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4}\right)\) which is a strong electrolyte.

A strong Electrolyte: Strong electrolytes are the compounds which ionize completely when they are dissolved in water. Thus, they are good conductors of electricity. The conductivity increases with dilution. For example: the soluble salts \((\mathrm{NaCl})\), strong acids \(\left(\mathrm{HNO}_{3}\right)\) and strong bases( \(\mathrm{NaOH}\) ).
