Chapter 2 Problem 83P

Question

Fill in the blanks in the following table.

Solution

Solution 83P:

Step 1

Here we have to find out the symbol.

Given:

Proton = 5 , neutron = 6 and electron = 5

It is known that number of proton (p) = 5 = atomic number (Z)

The mass number can be calculated as A = n + Z = 6 + 5 =11

Thus the atom which has atomic number 5 is boron. Here the number of proton is equal to the number of electrons hence the net charge will be zero.

Therefore the symbol is 511B with net charge zero.
