When a molecule contains hydrogen attached to the most electronegative atom (oxygen, fluorine, and nitrogen), it can form a dipole-dipole interaction between the hydrogen atom of one molecule and the non-bonding electrons of the electronegative atom. This bonding is known as hydrogen bonding.
The hydrogen bond formation can be recognized if the organic molecule contains \(\mathrm{N}-\mathrm{H}\) or \(\mathrm{O}-\mathrm{H}\) bonds. Also, if the organic molecule can form a hydrogen bond with water, they are soluble in water.
