QUESTION:

Problem 7E

How do you draw an ionic Lewis structure?

ANSWER:

Solution 7E Step 1 of 2 In Lewis structure, every atom is represented only with its valence electrons; each electron is represented as a dot. To represent an ionic bond, we have to consider that every atom could gain or lose at least an electron, thus forming a negative ion (if the atom acquire at least an electron) or a positive ion ( if the atom loses at least an electron). The electrons an atom can lose or gain can be calculated in order to respect the eight electrons rule. The elements can be represented in brackets.
