Question

Problem 15E

Within a covalent Lewis structure, what is the difference between lone pair and bonding pair electrons?

Solution

Solution 15E Step 1 of 1 The term “lone pair stand for a couple of electrons that isn’t shared by the atom to form any kind of bond. However, lone pair still contribute to the formation of the octet the atom needs for its stability. Lone pair are usually indicated as couple of dots surrounding an atom. The term “bonding pair” stands fr a couple of electrons that are shared between to atoms, thus contributing to the stability of each other.
